Prefrontal Cortex

I think mine is developing 

Something is going on 

I’m getting smarter and sharper and wiser 

Becoming better as the day turns night

I’m becoming better as my fear turns fright 

& what I know is right 

Is the only thing I’m doing 

My freedom keeps me enslaved 

Discipline is my freedom 

I never engaged in discipline 

I never did anything because I had to 

I lacked obligation and loyalty 

I lacked structure and discipline followed

Now I stay and I’m steadfast and 

I don’t pray, but I know that I should 

& there’s power in that knowing 

There’s power in the process 

There’s power in falling in love with it 

There’s power in me! 

There’s power in staying and trying and doing everything for what you want

Even dying 

There’s power in the want 

There’s also power in the statue 

That is bolted to the concrete 

There’s power in the stem of every leaf

There’s power in roots and there’s power in me 

I must remember 

Often I forget 

Today I flirted with a woman 

She asked for my jacket 

The one on my back

She expressed she liked it 

So I took it off and I placed it in her open hand 

Just because she asked 

No other reason really 

I am

Pigs bathing in dirt, then licking themselves clean

Extremely destructive thunderstorms that alter your life in seconds with a rainbow after 

Trash day 

Spring cleaning 

Fridge restock! (The other food was spoiled) 

Fresh roll of toilet paper, I used the roll to wipe too

Fresh load of laundry with holes in every garment 

Guess I’ll call it crochet 

A carpenter with a broken picture frame 

He will fix it! He’s trained in knowing how 

A pastor on a Sunday, with a pew, a Good book, and a glass of water 

A freshly divorced grandmother (at least she didn’t waste her whole life) 

A dog who has dug a hole far too deep

So deep that he can’t get out 

He barks on the way down 

His owner comes with a ladder 

And he climbs out on two feet 

Your phone died 

so you put it on the charger quickly 

Due to your quickness

the Apple sign came up immediately 

A laboring mother who has had three miscarriages 

I'm just growing and developing at speeds unimaginable

I can only wonder what’s next
