footstep apocalypse

somewhere the sound of a crumbling body

deafens an empty space —

a field of grass, a border,

an unbroken wall.

somewhere, the sound of quickened wind

and winding cars rings

so loudly in the ears

of a child that

cries erupt

in a place so

often overrun

by white noise

somewhere, a bee bumbles across flowers

decked out in their dazzling array.

another, a pen drops across a pond of wood and sandstone.

somewhere, someone stares in awe at Nature's creation.

they begin to ponder about honeyed romances,

pollen and perfect peace.

in another place, an ant sets

its final brick on a limitless city,

the apocalypse of misplaced

footsteps be damned.

listen closely

and you just might hear

the buzzing

right before its new world
