praise poem for everything under the sun
after Nate Marshall and Psalm 148
praise for the call and response
praise for the love that tastes like last days
the bitter tongue
the silent grenade
praise for the sun kissing
you Black and golden
calling your flesh and your soul
around its yellow circumference
and honey warm and silk
against your cheekbones
praise for the ashened nights
whistling through pot-holed streets
the blackened, bleeding wind
the soft crux of it all
and praise to you
a new day kisses you soft on the lips
trees hum to the tune of a bleeding moon
praising a new birth on troubled waters
praising a new birth on the edge of sun and sea
