Hopeful Romantic

Might be a matter of semantics

But I am not a hopeless romantic

I’m hopeful that we can move forward as friends

Hopeful that we’ll find something like this again

I won’t let a failed attempt put my heart in a hearse

I’ve loved and I’ve lost

But to never have loved would be worse

I left my armor in the attic

Next to my semiautomatic

Maybe it’s senseless

To go in defenseless

But love isn’t war

I played the game before

But no one was keeping score

So if my heart gets broken

At least it’s open

Open to the possibility

That he isn’t everything

That’s happened to me

I can look him in the eyes

And remember it wasn’t him

Who made me cry

It’s not fair to project the past onto the next man

I’m a princess like Diane, I can’t act anything less than

I’ll stay soft and keep a leash on my masculine

Put my best foot forward and trust the plan

Because I’m hopeful

Hopeful that the princess gets her fairytale ending

Hopeful that it will surpass my own understanding

Hopeful that it will arrive without me demanding

What I deserve
